Driving in Kuala Lumpur
I have been cycling around my housing area in Chile, and the freedom to go anywhere with my own two feet is amazing. I can go to the city, to the base of the mountains, or simply to the convenience store nearby. I similarly enjoyed this freedom (though in an more urban setting) in Malaysia, driving in a Proton Tiara, but its not as exhilarating as it is being powered by petrol, and not by elbow grease. Having to push yourself forward is more than half the fun. Either way I used to enjoy driving in Kuala Lumpur.
Sadly recently I have started to despise driving in Kuala Lumpur. The roads are terrible, the streets congested, and the parking nonexistent. I prefer staying out of the city as best as possible, and making trips there as little as I possibly and humanely can. Over the course of the past year, I have been more vulgar, agitated, and angry when driving, and its not good.
Sure there is the LRT and the Monorail, but even those are packed at certain times. Similarly parking near the stations can also be a potential problem. If Kuala Lumpur does plan to enact a congestion tax, I am just asking that the public transportation gets heaps better.
The LRTs and Monorail are crippled. In my opinion the lines aren't even connected, and why is the Monorail 100 or so meters away from the station, across from a car park? Such simple things discourage the use of the public transportation. Though I haven't taken any of the bus routes in years, I have heard stories of having to wait ages for a bus to come as they simply don't arrive on time. What more with the intense rain that Malaysia is being subjected to? Having to wait in the rain for a bus that may never come isn't a position I would want to be in, but people have to get places, so what choice is there?
In the meantime I found an interest site, which I know a lot of Malaysians are guilty of in committing this atrocious act. Parking is sparse, and when you park atrociously, irritating other people, then thats just wrong. I may even keep copies of their pamphlets in my car to use as required. Sadly they don't have an option for 'Double/Triple parking', for which I have sent a suggestion for.
Maybe when I get back to Malaysia, I'll have calmed down a bit in my change in driving attitude.
Chile: Day 1
20,000+ kilometers, 3 continents, 5 countries, all within 32 hours. Just arrived in Chile not to long ago, and it was one damn long flight. Worst of all it was all in Economy, so my whole body right now is sore.
Looks like the almighty Google overlords, already know where I am.
Met up with family, and wondering what I will exactly be doing in the next two months.
Will upload photos later.
