Free Content Definition
I seem to have an increasing interests in the area of Intellectual Property, especially in the area of Copyright. Not only am I evangelical about Free Software, but also Free (Open) Content.
While reading something (I seem to have forgotten as I was intrigued in this site) I came upon a link to the Free Content Definition. Whilst the Creative Commons helps to provide licenses to promote Free Content, its definition is still not understood by many people. At the moment they are only at version 0.66, and the editing process is still continuing.
The Free Software Content Definition:
- the freedom to study the work and to apply knowledge acquired from it
- the freedom to redistribute copies, in whole or in part, of the information or expression
- the freedom to make improvements or other changes, and to release modified copies
Free Software aficionados should be able to spot the similarities to the Free Software Definition.
Hopefully with a formal definition of Free Content, more people will be able to understand its meaning, and grasp the benefits. Sadly though, we’ve had the Free Software Definition for years, and for many that is still hard to understand. But at least it should be easier for people should be able to relate to content.
However, no work can be truly called “free” unless it can be freely shared, freely modified, freely aggregated, freely combined, and freely provided through any channel.

Interestingly enough there is a Logo Contest for interested parties. Some cute, funny, and interesting logos.
