7th AsiaOSS Day 1: Codefest

March 5th, 2006 by aizatto

Been at the AsiaOSS Codefest for the whole day, so that is since 8:45am yesterday ( March 4th 2006 ) morning, till now 3:28 am ( March 5th 2006 ). Burning the midnight oil right now while other people are sleeping. You can keep track of the progress at #asiaoss on irc.freenode.net and see http://projects.asiaosc.org/ for updates.

So far I can say that it has been quite an experience meeting all these interesting people all working together in collaboration for a better future. A better writeup will be done later when I get some rest, and relaxation. Especially after staying up for the whole code fest.

Overall I would suggest anyone to attend such an event.

Kudos to MIMOS

Not going to go to sleep just yet, have some stuff to finish first.

Several Announcements

February 14th, 2006 by aizatto

Some how it was decided that a MyOSS Meetup Mailing List should be set up for announcements, but it appears that discussion is going on there. Don’t really mind, but either way, if you want to be announced when a MyOSS event happens, sign up here.

Also at the upcoming AsiaOSS, we apparently have a booth:
MIMOS is also sponsoring an exhibition booth for Malaysian OSS community
at Nikko Hotel from March 6-8, 2006. We are looking for potential OSS
projects to participate in the “Community Booth”. For interested
parties, please email your project description to ossall@mimos.my.

*quoted from the email on the mailing list at OSSIG

Should we do it? What are we going to do exactly? Would be a good time to build contacts, but the problem is, if I’m doing this rapporteur position, thats one less person to man the booth. Jugding from the schedule ( it being held on a work day ) I am not to sure how many people can help with the situation.

In search of a Rapporteur

February 10th, 2006 by aizatto

The 7th Asia OSS event is coming up on March 4-8th. The event will be a consortium where several countries are invited to particpate in talks concerning Open Source. Yes it seems they have forgotten the “Freedom” part about it. The theme is apparently “Towards Asian Open Source Software Ecosystem for Sustainable Development of OSS” . Goddamn that is one long title, plus why is it they changed from “Open Source Software” to “OSS”. No consistency, not good.

Either way thats not the thing. MIMOS is looking for rapporteurs ( if you don’t know what that means, dont worry, neither did I ) for the event. You will be able to freely attend the Code Fest and the Closed Events. Free lunch and dinner, and you can make a bit of cash in the process. So if you are interested, please contact me at aizat.faiz@gmail.com.

But I suggest you look at their agenda first to see if you are actually interested in the event.
This is a great opportunity to make cash, and attend an event at the same time, so don’t waste your chance. What will you be doing exactly? Well at the end of the even there will be a “Kuala Lumpur State” delivered by MIMOS, and we will be putting that together. So you will have to attentively pay attention to presentations, workshops, discussions, and will have to put togethere a paper discussing what was covered during the whole 5 day event.

Requirements:

Good command of the English Language, or for less pay, just be good at taking notes, I’ll compile the final paper together. Also must be knowledgable about FOSS.
Events looking forward to: Ruby on Rails, and talks about the Sri Lanka Foundation
