Malaysia needs a Hackathon.
Hackathons bring programmers and designers together, to focus on a single idea, and to build it quickly. During a hackathon the creative juices are free flowing and whole products are built and companies become incorporated.
At hackathons, there is an intense energy where people are focused on building.
Currently there are no regular hackathons in Malaysia.
There are few opportunities for talented programmers and designers to come together in large numbers and hack in Malaysia.
Together with a group of friends, we will be organizing the Hackweekend, the premier hackathon community in Malaysia. Hackweekend is an exclusive event where only vetted people can participate. The goal of this is to keep the quality of the participants high, and to ensure that everyone can produce.
As we are only starting off, we can only support a certain number of people. Perhaps in the future as Hackweekend grows larger, we can open it up.

As of this posting, there are currently 37 people attending, and the list looks formidable. Never have I seen so many programmers and designers come together in Malaysia to build an app.
It is quite encouraging to see the positive feedback Hackweekend has gotten.
Let’s make this a success. Let’s make this a credible event. Let’s make this awesome, so that we can have more Hackweekends in the future!
