MyOSS April 2007 Meetup Review
Update (2007-04-26 8:47): The video of Bob Sutor’s presentation is up
It was a great meetup. Especially after being missing for almost five months.
Thanks goes to:
- Open University Malaysia, and Nurhizam
- IBM, Bob Sutor and Hasan
- Members of FOSSSM who have helped, Kaeru, Ditesh, Yoonkit
We had the honorable Bob Sutor, come and give us a presentation on “The Shift to ‘Open’: Boost or Brakes for Innovation and Business” (slides) (ogg) (mp3). I video taped the whole presentation and according to Google Video, it’s under “Processing”. So just wait. Sadly the quality of the recording isn’t good. So my suggestions is to just listen to the ogg/mp3, and follow the slides. Or if you have skills in these areas and can help me CLEAN up these files. I’d appreciate it :).

Note: Yes you may notice the title may be different, but judging from the presentation description they cover they same thing. Bob even told us to disregard the title, hehe :).
There was a large attendance, with up to thirty three people. The best part is that over half of them registered on the forms, and opted to contacted with regards to Open Standards and the OpenDocument Format in Malaysia.
Bob Sutor has written about his stay in Malaysia and complements us:
These folks are dedicated and have passion with amazing technical smarts. It’s because of people like them that we’re seeing the entire software world change as rapidly as it is.
So to the people who attended the meetup, do write him a thanks :).
I also gave a small talk on the upcoming Free and Open Source Software Society Malaysia, but sadly I didn’t record it. I plan to do a screen capture or something, so that I can easily disseminate information.
Stay tuned for the next meetup presentation…once again Jaya Kumar will be presenting, and this time with a more complete prototype of the OLPC XO Laptop.
