Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007 rollout in Malaysian Universities
ICT - The Next Step, or so says the Star article. Once again we are bombarded by words of advice, asking us to push forward, and do good for our nation. On a side note, don’t worry about the rest of the article though, it seems to go off into a pointless dabble, and rant, and just a whole lot of hot air. Sure it makes complete logical sense, but I’ve heard it way too many times. The main problem is that people have a tendency not to take action.
Students must not only be exposed to information and communication technology (ICT) but should also be able to create software and specialise within this area said Deputy Higher Education Minister, Datuk Ong Tee Keat.
What worried me was not the suggestion given by the Deputy Higher Education Minister. Sure I’d love more students to specialize in this area. But what worried me was with the next paragraph of the article.
… he said recently after launching the Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007 for the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) campus
From this article it seems like Windows Vista and Microsoft Office 2007 is already being rolled out in Malaysia to Universities. Sure this is probably part of the agreement over a year back with Microsoft, but why the quick adoption?
Well my first thought was Microsoft wanted to keep the mindshare of the people. Or maybe I’ve just gone pessimistic over the years.
To all Malaysian College/University Students:
If Windows Vista or Microsoft Office 2007 is being rolled out to your college/university, please do inform me. I’d liked to know how far and fast this thing is moving. Out of curiosity of course.
