Ubuntu 5.10 Preview on R52

Ever since the release of Gnome 2.10, and its inclusion into the Ubuntu 5.10 Preview, my anxiousness to use Gnome 2.10 overcame me. But I was on FreeBSD 6.0 - Beta3 at the time, and Beta4 just came out, so I decided to upgrade to that, and presto! Something happened, and it was "new installation" time. Well I saw the Ubuntu 5.10 Preview out, and just decided to give it a shot.

Success! So I have been running this for over two weeks now, and it has been great, except for one time when my Xorg was uninstalled. Don't exactly know how that happened, but it wasn't too hard to resolve. Also it doesn't hang at random intervals anymore, and it my i915 is supported, so major woot-age! Then again I don't play games, but oh well, it should come in handy either way.

I have my wifi ( ipw2200 ) working with WPA using wpa_supplicant, and it not only works in my place, but also my friend's. Which mean's that all is fine :3 . I've been using my laptop more and more because of the wireless ability, but I feel that it isn't powerful enough and I'm not getting enough of a singal. So I am thinking of purchasing a wireless card with the ability to connect to an antenna. This is not just for my R52, but also perhaps a new toy.

Recently there have been a few articles detailing Ubuntu's fork/deviation from Debian.

I personally prefer group efforts, and with Ubuntu not in the Debian Core Alliance, I feel that something up is happening. So maybe later on I may switch over to Debian Sarge, and get that working. Of course only when something bad has happened to my laptop, and I have no choice but to reformat.

The mysterious sound from before ( when running on batteries ) is now very, low and almost inaudible. But I am unable to install the latest ibm-acpi. The Ubuntu kernel ships with ibm-acpi 0.8, but 0.11 is out, and I have been unsuccessful in compiling that file, if anyone has any idea on how to, I'd be more than happy. I wish they would include the latest version with the kernel next time.

With the approaching release date for Ubuntu 5.10 ( October 14 ), there have been a lot of updates to the Ubuntu repositories, and alot of changes are happening to my machine. Well I bet I can't exactly tell what the changes are, but the most obvious one is that they have finally updated the splash screen.

Ubuntu 5.10 is going to be released on October 14, and I am looking forward to it.
